Pre & Post Care

Your guide to preparing for your appointment

Depending on which services you're planning for, there are varying guidelines to prevent snags in your appointment, and ensure the best possible results. Below you will find your guide for all of Natural Beauty Esthetics' services, including how to prepare for your appointment, what to expect after, and potential contraindications.

Whether you've booked a facial, lash lift, or permanent makeup, preparation is essential to maximize the results of your treatment.  For the best experience with any service, be sure to:

  • Wear comfortable clothes
  • Arrive without makeup, if possible.
  • Avoid potential irritants like waxing and chemical exfoliation in the days leading up to your appointment

Pre & Post Care for Permanent Makeup

Permanent Makeup, including microblading, permanent eyebrows and eyeliner, is a method of cosmetic tattooing that can help replace the time consuming steps in your makeup routine. Permanent eyebrows generally last 2-5 years in between maintenance sessions, and permanent eyeliner often lasts over 10 years.

While cosmetic tattooing is a non invasive procedure, and has few contraindications, it is recommended to follow some simple steps to ensure the best results. Below you will find some guidelines for the days leading up to your appointment, as well as the aftercare procedures for the days following application of permanent makeup.

Before Your Appointment:

Two weeks prior to your appointment:

  • Avoid advanced skin treatments, such as chemical peels, cosmetic injectables, and laser treatments.

Pre & Post Care for Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are an advanced skincare treatment used to  brighten hyperpigmentation, soften skin texture, improve acne, and prevent and reduce signs of aging. As the name implies, chemical peels use chemical exfoliants to help shed the outer layers of the skin. While Natural Beauty Esthetics favors superficial peels that promote progressive results, rather than aggressive peels that require a more extensive healing process, it's still very important to ensure that the skin is primed prior to your service, and that there are no contraindications prior to treatment.

If you have never had a chemical peel before, or if its been a while, it is recommended to start out with a gentler application, such as a mini peel, to establish a baseline for your skin's reaction to chemical exfoliants, and to prepare the skin for future peels.

Before Your Appointment:

Two weeks prior to your appointment:

  • Avoid cosmetic injectables, permanent makeup, and advanced skin treatments such as chemical peels and laser treatments for at least two weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid other advanced skincare treatments such as microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, and laser treatments.

One week prior to your appointment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure that could result in a sunburn
  • Temporarily discontinue the use of Retinol or other vitamin A derivatives for a minimum of one week prior to a chemical peel
  • Temporarily discontinue the use of chemical exfoliants
  • Avoid waxing or shaving facial hair
  • Avoid Semi Permanent Makeup in the week leading up to your appointment
  • Double check all of your skincare products to ensure that the ones you will be using post peel are free from retinoids and chemical exfoliants. If you are unsure, you have the option to add a Post Peel Rescue Kit to your chemical peel to ensure that you have all of the products you need to nurture your skin post peel.

Day of:

  • Wear comfy clothes
  • Avoid wearing necklaces that can interfere with neck and shoulder massage
  • Arrive without makeup

Aftercare:

Depending on which protocol was used, you may or may not notice redness, peeling, dryness, tingling, itching, or tight feeling skin immediately after your chemical peel. These are normal, and should never be severe. During the first week after your chemical peel, your skin will be sensitive and very dry. This is a part of the healing process triggered by chemical exfoliation, and it is actually during this time that the skin heals itself and improves. Naturally, it is crucial to care for your skin during this healing period, not only to maximize results, but to prevent possible adverse reactions.

In the first week following a chemical peel:

  • Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers, and avoid contact with retinoids, chemical exfoliants,  and any other active ingredients that can increase sensitivity.
  • Dot not exfoliate the skin in any way.
  • Wear high SPF sunscreen and moisturizer every day. You may find that you need a heavier moisturizer during this time to combat dryness during the healing period.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight
  • Avoid applying  makeup
  • Drink plenty of water to maintain proper hydration of your skin.

In the second week following your chemical peel:

  • You will find that the dryness begins to improve
  • Peeling, if present, should be coming to its final stages
  • You skin will become less sensitive.
  • You may begin to apply makeup, and cautiously incorporate more of your regular skin care routine, if your skin tolerates it well.
  • By the end of the second week, your skin will become more hydrated and luminous, revealing your inner glow.

Possible Contraindications

  • Pregnancy & Nursing
  • Skin lesions, such as scratches, wounds, or rashes
  • Undiagnosed skin conditions
  • Recent injectables or permanent cosmetics
  • Use of Accutane within the past year
  • Active cold sores
  • Recent surgery
  • Allergy to aspirin, apples, grapes or citrus
